First of all, satellites provide information that saves lives. After an earthquake, radar satellites such as those in the Daichi series can observe damaged areas day and night, even through clouds, which helps rescue teams decide where to go first. Secondly, having its own satellites allows Japan to act quickly. If Japan depended only on other countries, it might have to wait for images, or the satellites might be busy with other tasks at the critical moment. Developing satellites at home also supports Japanese companies and engineers, who can share their technology with other disaster-prone countries. For these reasons, more domestic satellites would make Japan safer.
