Some people argue that space exploration should wait until we have solved the problems on Earth, but I disagree. My first reason is that Earth's problems will never be completely solved. There will always be poverty, disease and conflict somewhere in the world, so waiting for a perfect Earth would mean never exploring space at all. Besides, space budgets are only a tiny part of what governments spend, so cutting them would not end poverty. My second reason is that space exploration often helps us solve problems on Earth. Satellites watch over crops, forests and oceans, warn people of approaching typhoons and help rescue teams after disasters. Photographs of Earth taken from space have also made many people realize how small and fragile our planet is, which encouraged the environmental movement. In short, space exploration is not a distraction from Earth's problems but a powerful tool for dealing with them.
