If a spaceport were planned in my region, I would support the project. The biggest reason is the economic boost it could bring. A spaceport needs engineers, technicians and many other workers, and related companies would likely move to the area. In Japan, towns such as Taiki in Hokkaido and Kushimoto in Wakayama hope that rocket launch sites will bring new jobs and keep young people from leaving for big cities. Another reason is tourism and education. Rocket launches attract many visitors, who spend money at local hotels, restaurants and shops. At the same time, local children would be able to watch real rockets lift off, which could spark a lifelong interest in science. Naturally, safety and noise must be carefully managed, and residents should be consulted from the beginning. Even so, I believe the benefits of a spaceport would far outweigh the drawbacks.
