I am confident that the space industry will become a major part of the world economy. First, more and more businesses already rely on services from space. Satellite communication, navigation and Earth observation are used in fields as different as shipping, farming and insurance. As launch costs fall thanks to reusable rockets, even small companies can now put satellites into orbit, and new services keep appearing. Second, governments are actively supporting this growth. Japan, for instance, has set a goal of doubling the size of its space industry by the early 2030s, and many start-up companies are developing small satellites, lunar landers and other products. These businesses create skilled jobs and attract investment from around the world. Considering these trends, I believe the space industry will play a central role in the global economy in the coming decades.
