The 'Turkish March' is the last movement of Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 11. In the score he wrote 'Alla turca', meaning 'in the Turkish style'. It was probably written around 1783 and was published in Vienna in 1784, together with two other sonatas. It is a dream piece for many piano students.
In Vienna at the time, music in the style of the Ottoman (Turkish) military bands was all the rage. These bands made a bold, noisy sound with bass drums, cymbals and triangles. Mozart copied that sound on the piano with strong, repeated chords in the low notes. The sonata is unusual in other ways too: its first movement is a set of variations.
Around 1800, some pianos were even built with a 'Turkish' pedal that made drum and bell sounds, used for playing music like this. Then in 2014, part of Mozart's own handwritten score of this sonata was found in a library in Budapest, Hungary, and the discovery made news around the world.
This music sounds like a Turkish band. In Mozart's time, people in Vienna loved Turkish music. Turkish bands used big drums and cymbals. Mozart made the piano sound like drums! Many piano students want to play it.

For a long time, only the last page of Mozart's handwritten score of this sonata was thought to survive. Then in 2014, four more pages were found at the National Széchényi Library in Budapest. They showed some differences from the printed notes, which surprised scholars.
Beethoven also wrote a famous 'Turkish March', part of his music for the play The Ruins of Athens. Both Mozart and Beethoven used the 'Turkish style' that was fashionable in Vienna.
In 1683, a huge Ottoman army surrounded Vienna. The siege failed, but over time the music of the Turkish military bands, once the sound of a feared enemy, became popular in Europe as something exotic and exciting. By Mozart's time, about 100 years later, it was a huge fashion.
In 1782 Mozart had a big success with The Abduction from the Seraglio, an opera set in a Turkish palace. It also features noisy 'Turkish' music with cymbals, bass drum and triangle.
