紡ぎ歌

エルメンライヒは1816年にカールスルーエで生まれ、俳優・歌手・作家として活躍しました。1833年にフランクフルトの劇場の合唱団に入ってから各地の劇場で演じ、1883年には舞台生活50周年をむかえています。作曲は、そんな多才な人の「もうひとつの顔」でした。

Ellmenreich was born in Karlsruhe in 1816 and worked as an actor, singer and writer. He joined the chorus of the Frankfurt theater in 1833, acted in theaters in many cities, and celebrated 50 years on stage in 1883. Composing was just 'another side' of this many-talented man.

糸車は、19世紀の作曲家たちの好きなテーマでした。シューベルトの歌曲「糸を紡ぐグレートヒェン」や、メンデルスゾーンの「無言歌」の中で「紡ぎ歌」とよばれる曲など、くるくる回る動きを音でえがいた名曲がたくさんあります。エルメンライヒの曲も、そのなかまのひとつです。

The spinning wheel was a favorite theme for 19th-century composers. Schubert's song 'Gretchen at the Spinning Wheel' and the Mendelssohn Song without Words known as 'Spinning Song' both show the turning motion in sound. Ellmenreich's piece is part of this family.

この曲は一般に「作品14の4」として知られていますが、楽譜によっては「作品14の5」と書かれていることもあります。曲集の中の曲の数え方が、版によってちがったためと考えられています。同じ「紡ぎ歌」でも番号がちがうことがあるので、楽譜をさがすときは注意しましょう。

This piece is generally known as Op. 14 No. 4, but some editions call it No. 5. This is probably because the pieces in the set were counted differently in different editions. So be careful when you look for the music: the same 'Spinning Song' may have a different number.

「紡ぎ歌」が入った曲集には、全部で6曲が入っています。狩りの行列、深い悲しみとなぐさめ、蝶のむれ、紡ぎ歌、サヴォワ地方の人びとの踊り、そして葬送行進曲。にぎやかな場面から静かな場面まで、人びとの暮らしをいろいろな音でえがいているのです。

The collection that includes 'Spinning Song' has six pieces in all: a hunting procession, deep sorrow and comfort, swarming butterflies, the spinning song, a dance of the Savoy people, and a funeral march. From lively scenes to quiet ones, it paints people's lives in many kinds of sound.
