アルベルト・エルメンライヒ

アルベルト・エルメンライヒは1816年、ドイツのカールスルーエに生まれました。母フリーデリケは、各地の劇場で活躍した歌手で女優です。一家は母の仕事にあわせて、ハンブルク、マンハイム、フランクフルトと引っこしをくり返しました。アルベルトはフランクフルトで学校を終え、1833年、17歳で劇場の合唱団に入りました。Albert Ellmenreich was born in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1816. His mother, Friederike, was a singer and actress who worked in theatres all over Germany. The family kept moving to follow her work, from Hamburg to Mannheim and then to Frankfurt. Albert finished school in Frankfurt, and in 1833, at seventeen, he joined the chorus of the Frankfurt theatre.

1834年からは役者としてアルテンブルクの劇場で働き、ニュルンベルクやデュッセルドルフの舞台にも立ちました。1836年からは北ドイツのシュヴェリーンにある宮廷劇場の一員となり、1860年までそこで活躍します。役者として舞台に立つだけでなく、劇の台本や歌も書きました。母は晩年、シュヴェリーンで息子と暮らしました。From 1834 he worked as an actor in Altenburg, and he also appeared on stage in Nuremberg and Düsseldorf. In 1836 he joined the court theatre in Schwerin in northern Germany, where he stayed until 1860. Besides acting, he wrote plays and songs. In her last years, his mother lived with him in Schwerin.

He also worked as a stage director in places such as Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Riga, now in Latvia. During this time, in 1863, a Leipzig publisher brought out his set of easy piano pieces, Musical Genre Pictures, Op. 14. One of them was the Spinning Song.

The next year he retired and moved to Lübeck, where he died in 1905, aged 89. Today his acting career is almost forgotten, but the Spinning Song, with its notes whirling like a spinning wheel, is still played in piano lessons around the world, and it keeps his name alive.
