Is space exploration worth the risk to astronauts' lives?

Space exploration is dangerous, but I believe it is worth the risk. First of all, astronauts choose this job freely and with full knowledge of the dangers. They train for years and understand that their missions could fail. Respecting their decision is important, just as we respect firefighters or mountain climbers who accept risks for a goal they value. Moreover, every mission, including the failures, teaches us how to make space travel safer. After the Challenger and Columbia accidents, engineers carefully studied what went wrong and greatly improved safety rules. The safe return of the Apollo 13 crew also showed how teamwork and preparation can save lives in an emergency. Without people willing to take risks, humanity would never have reached the Moon. In conclusion, as long as space agencies do everything possible to protect their crews, human space exploration is worth the risk.

I think going to space is worth the danger. First, astronauts choose this job by themselves. They know it is dangerous, and they train very hard for many years. Second, we learn from problems. After terrible accidents, engineers worked hard to make rockets and spaceships safer. Brave people helped humans reach the Moon, so I think space exploration should continue in the future.

  • Robots and probes can explore space without putting any human lives in danger.
  • The loss of even one astronaut is a tragedy for families, and no scientific discovery can justify it.
