ヤドンは英語で何て言う？GUとポケモンの新しい服にピカチュウやゲンガーも

The clothing brand GU started selling new Pokémon clothes in Japan on October 23. They went on sale online at 7:15 a.m. They are also sold at GU stores.

服のブランドGUが10月23日、日本でポケモンの新しい服を売り出しました。朝7時15分に、ネットで発売されました。GUのお店でも売られています。

The idea for the clothes is a trainer living in a forest with Pokémon. They have natural colors and an outdoor style.

服のテーマは、ポケモンといっしょに森でくらすトレーナーです。自然な色で、外遊びのような雰囲気の服です。

Pikachu, Eevee, Gengar and Slowpoke are some of the Pokémon on the clothes. In Japan, Slowpoke is called Yadon. Its English name has the word slow in it. In English, the word slowpoke means a very slow person.

服には、ピカチュウ、イーブイ、ゲンガー、ヤドンなどのポケモンがいます。日本では、Slowpoke はヤドンと呼ばれています。英語の名前には、「おそい」という意味の slow が入っています。英語の slowpoke ということばは、「とてものろい人」という意味です。

There are clothes for adults and for children. Adult sizes go from XS to 3XL. Kids' sizes go from 100 to 160 centimeters. Knit jackets with Pikachu and Eevee designs are the most expensive items, at 4,990 yen each.

大人用と子ども用の服があります。大人のサイズは XS から 3XL までです。子どものサイズは100センチから160センチまでです。ピカチュウやイーブイのデザインのニットジャケットがいちばん高く、1着4990円です。

The clothing brand GU released a new Pokémon collection for autumn and winter on October 23. The clothes went on sale at GU stores across Japan and on the brand's official online store, where sales started at 7:15 a.m. Besides T-shirts, the collection includes fleece pullovers, sweatshirts, hoodies and lounge sets. Prices range from 1,490 yen for a T-shirt to 4,990 yen for a full-zip knit jacket.

服のブランドGUが10月23日、ポケモンの秋冬の新しいコレクションを発売した。全国のGUの店と公式のネットストアで販売が始まり、ネットストアでは朝7時15分から売り出された。Tシャツのほかに、フリースのプルオーバー、スウェット、パーカー、上下セットのラウンジウエアもある。値段は、Tシャツの1490円から、前を全部ファスナーで開けられるニットジャケットの4990円まで。

The collection is based on the lifestyle of a trainer living in a forest with Pokémon. The clothes use natural colors and details inspired by outdoor wear. The knit jackets feature designs of Pikachu and Eevee. There are unisex items in sizes XS to 3XL, as well as kids' items for children from 100 to 160 centimeters tall.

コレクションは、ポケモンと森でくらすトレーナーの暮らしをもとにしている。服には自然な色と、アウトドアの服をヒントにした細かいデザインが使われている。ニットジャケットには、ピカチュウやイーブイのデザインが入っている。男女どちらでも着られる XS から 3XL までの服と、身長100～160センチの子ども用の服がある。

Gengar and Slowpoke appear in the collection, too. For Japanese fans who read English, the name Slowpoke can be a surprise. In Japanese, the Pokémon is known as Yadon. The official Pokémon GO website calls Slowpoke the Dopey Pokémon. In March 2023, Slowpoke even had its own Community Day event in Pokémon GO.

ゲンガーとヤドンも、このコレクションに登場する。英語を読む日本のファンにとって、Slowpoke という名前はおどろきかもしれない。日本語では、このポケモンはヤドンとして知られている。ポケモンGOの公式サイトは、Slowpoke を「まぬけポケモン（the Dopey Pokémon）」と呼んでいる。2023年3月には、ポケモンGOでヤドンが主役の「コミュニティ・デイ」も開かれた。

The English name comes from an ordinary word. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines slowpoke as someone who is very slow. The word is much older than the Pokémon games. According to the same dictionary, its first known use in English was in 1847. That means English speakers were calling slow people slowpokes almost 180 years ago.

この英語の名前は、ふつうの英単語から来ている。メリアム・ウェブスターの辞書は、slowpoke を「とてものろい人」と説明している。このことばは、ポケモンのゲームよりずっと古い。同じ辞書によると、英語で使われたことがわかっているいちばん古い例は1847年だ。つまり英語を話す人たちは、約180年前にはもう、のろい人を slowpoke と呼んでいたことになる。
