ストリートファイターの実写映画が全米1位　日本でも3日で約7.9万人が見た

A new Street Fighter movie was the top film in North America last weekend. The movie is based on a fighting game by Capcom, a Japanese company.

新しい『ストリートファイター』の映画が、先週末、北アメリカでいちばん人気の映画になりました。この映画は、日本の会社カプコンの格闘ゲームがもとになっています。

It opened in the United States and Canada on October 16. Early estimates say it made about 31 million dollars there in three days. Around the world, it made about 51 million dollars that weekend.

映画は10月16日に、アメリカとカナダで公開されました。はじめの見こみでは、そこで3日間に約3100万ドルを売り上げました。その週末、世界全体では約5100万ドルを売り上げました。

The movie came out in Japan on the same day. In its first three days, nearly 79,000 people saw it in Japanese theaters. It made more than 130 million yen. Among new foreign movies that week, it was number one in Japan.

映画は同じ日に日本でも公開されました。最初の3日間で、約7万9000人が日本の映画館でこの映画を見ました。売り上げは1億3000万円をこえました。その週に公開された外国の新しい映画の中では、日本で1位でした。

The first Street Fighter game came out in arcades in 1987. That was 39 years ago. In the new movie, real actors play Ryu and Ken, two fighters from the game. The story takes place in 1993.

A live-action film based on the Street Fighter games by the Japanese company Capcom has opened at No. 1 in North America. Over its first weekend, from October 16 to 18, the movie earned an estimated 31 million dollars at 3,575 theaters in the United States and Canada. Paramount Pictures released the film in both countries. Its worldwide total for the weekend reached about 51 million dollars, which means roughly 20 million dollars came from outside North America. All of these figures are early estimates.

The movie opened in Japan on the same day, October 16, in 862 theaters. In its first three days, 78,676 people went to see it, and ticket sales came to about 134 million yen. That works out to about 91 viewers per theater. Among the foreign films that opened in Japan that week, it ranked first.

The film was produced by the studio Legendary together with Capcom. It was directed by Kitao Sakurai. The story is set in 1993, and it centers on Ryu and Ken, two fighters from the games.

The original Street Fighter came out in August 1987 as an arcade game. Its sequel, Street Fighter II, followed in 1991 and set off a boom. This is not the first time the series has become a Hollywood movie. An earlier Street Fighter film came out in 1994, 32 years before the new one.
