「明日」は英語で何て言う？

「明日」の意味

「明日」は今日の次の日のことで、英語では tomorrow です。「明日の朝」は tomorrow morning のように前に in や the をつけないなど、ほかの言葉との組み合わせ方で迷いやすい単語です。

英語で言うと？（5つの言い方）

• tomorrow定番

  「明日」の一番ふつうの言い方。I'll do it tomorrow.（明日やるね）のように、前に何もつけずに使えます。

• tomorrow morning / tomorrow night定番

  「明日の朝」「明日の夜」。in や the をつけずに、tomorrow のあとに時間帯を続けます。

• See you tomorrow!カジュアル

  「また明日ね！」という別れのあいさつ。友だちや同僚との間で毎日のように使います。

• the day after tomorrow定番

  「あさって」。少し長いですが、これがふつうの言い方です。

• the next day / the following dayフォーマル

  過去の話や物語の中での「次の日」。the following day は少し硬めの言い方です。

使い分けのコツ

• tomorrow の前に on や in はつけません（×on tomorrow）。
• 「明日の夜」は tomorrow night、夕方なら tomorrow evening と言います。
• 昔の話の中の「その次の日」は tomorrow ではなく the next day を使います。

よくある間違い「明日に行く」を I'll go on tomorrow. と言うミスが多いですが、tomorrow はそれだけで「明日に」という意味なので I'll go tomorrow. で十分です。
