The global market for Japanese anime reached a record 3.84 trillion yen, or about 25 billion dollars, in 2024. The Association of Japanese Animations (AJA) released the figure at TIFFCOM, a content trade fair in Tokyo, on October 30, 2025. The market grew 14.8 percent from the year before. Only 2019, when the market grew 15.3 percent, saw a bigger rise.

The AJA counts more than ticket sales and TV fees. Its figure also covers merchandise, music, live events, streaming, home video and licensing deals abroad.

Masahiro Hasegawa, who edits the AJA's yearly industry report, said the gap between the two would keep widening.

Studios that actually produce anime also earned more. Their revenue rose 9.1 percent to a record 466.2 billion yen. Hasegawa said studio income grew more slowly because some overseas money, such as income from streaming, takes a few years to reach the studios.
