国連（世界）the United Nations12月11日は国際山岳デー。2003年から毎年行われ、山に住む約12億人の暮らしや自然を考える日になっている。

韓国South Korea10月18日が「산의 날（山の日）」。2002年に山林庁が定めた。紅葉の季節で、旧暦9月9日に高い所へ登る昔の風習とも結びつけて説明される。

日本（海の日）Japan (Marine Day)山の日の「先輩」が海の日（7月第3月曜日）。海の日は「海洋国日本の繁栄を願う」とまで書かれているが、山の日は「親しむ」と「感謝」だけ。
