People spent more money on Japanese anime in 2025 than ever before. The total was about 4.45 trillion yen. It was the first time the market went over 4 trillion yen.

Japan's anime industry market grew to a record 4.4491 trillion yen in 2025, according to preliminary figures. The Association of Japanese Animations, an industry group, released the numbers on October 30. It was the first time the market had passed 4 trillion yen.

The figure is an estimate of how much users paid for anime and related products in Japan and abroad. The market grew 15.8 percent from the previous year. The group said both the size of the market and its growth rate were the highest on record. NHK reported that the market has hit a record high for five straight years.

The overseas total was about 636 billion yen larger than the domestic one. As a result, the overseas share of the market reached 57.1 percent, up from 56.5 percent in 2024.

The group also measured a narrower market based on the sales of anime studios. That figure rose 8.4 percent to 505.5 billion yen, which was also a record. The share of studio sales that came from overseas grew to 27.9 percent.
