「リズム天国」11年ぶりの新作が100万本突破　昔のゲームもTikTokで再ブーム

A new Rhythm Heaven game has sold more than one million copies in Japan. The game, Rhythm Heaven Miracle Stars, came out for the Nintendo Switch on July 2.

The game magazine Famitsu counts game sales at stores in Japan. It said the total passed one million in the week to September 13. The game was number one on its weekly list for the seventh time. It was also the top seller in July and August.

The series was already popular with teenagers before the new game came out. In April, the company Mynavi asked 610 girls aged 13 to 19 about trends. A short game from 2011 came second in the activities group. Mynavi said it became popular on TikTok.

The sales figure comes from Famitsu, a game magazine that publishes weekly estimates of sales at stores across Japan. In the week from September 7 to 13, Miracle Stars sold 24,756 copies, which pushed its total to 1,000,045. It was the seventh time the game had topped the weekly chart. Copies bought and downloaded online are not part of the count.

Famitsu also publishes a monthly chart that counts only packaged copies. On that chart, Miracle Stars was the best-selling game in Japan in both July and August. It sold about 271,000 packaged copies in August alone, bringing its total on that chart to about 946,000.

Interest in the series had been growing among Japanese teenagers even before the new title came out. In the second half of April, the company Mynavi surveyed 610 girls aged 13 to 19 about trends. In the activities group of its ranking, second place went to a short rhythm game from a 2011 Rhythm Heaven title, with 16.7 percent. The game's Japanese name means "wrestler press conference," and Mynavi said its music had recently spread on TikTok.

Mynavi linked several items on its list, including sticker albums and photo sticker booths, to a wider boom in culture from the Heisei era. That era lasted from 1989 to 2019.
