マーラータン専門店が半年で273店オープン　去年1年分をこえるブーム

Many new malatang shops are opening in Japan. Malatang is a hot and spicy soup from China.

日本で、マーラータンの新しいお店がたくさんオープンしています。マーラータンは、中国生まれの、辛いスープ料理です。

At these shops, customers choose noodles, vegetables and other foods themselves. Then the staff cook them in the soup.

こうしたお店では、お客さんが自分で、めんや野菜などの具を選びます。それから、お店の人がスープで煮てくれます。

The data company Review studied public records about new restaurants. It said 273 malatang shops opened from January to June this year. That is more than the 225 shops that opened in all of last year. In 2022, only 21 shops opened.

データ会社のReviewが、新しい飲食店についての公的な記録を調べました。それによると、今年の1月から6月に、マーラータンのお店が273店オープンしました。これは、去年1年間にオープンした225店よりも多い数です。2022年にオープンしたのは、たった21店でした。

About 60 percent of this year's new shops are outside the Tokyo area. Malatang is also popular with teenagers. It was on a list of 50 trend words for junior high and high school girls. A cooking website also named it the top food word of the first half of 2026.

今年の新しいお店の約60％は、首都圏の外にあります。マーラータンは10代にも人気です。女子中高生の流行語の候補50語にも入りました。料理のウェブサイトも、2026年上半期のいちばんの料理のことばに選びました。

More specialty shops selling malatang opened in Japan in the first six months of this year than in all of last year, a data company said in September. Malatang is a spicy soup that comes from the Sichuan region of China. At specialty shops, customers pick their own ingredients, such as glass noodles and vegetables, and the staff cook them in the broth.

マーラータンを出す専門店が、今年の最初の半年で、去年1年間よりも多くオープンしたと、データ会社が9月に発表しました。マーラータンは、中国の四川地方で生まれた辛いスープ料理です。専門店では、お客さんが春雨や野菜などの具を自分で選び、店の人がそれをスープで煮ます。

The data company Review counted new shops using public records from local governments. It found that 273 malatang specialty shops opened from January to June, compared with 225 in the whole of 2025. More than 40 shops opened every month from February to June. In 2022, the number for the full year was only 21.

データ会社のReviewは、自治体などの公的な記録をもとに、新しいお店の数を数えました。その結果、1月から6月にマーラータンの専門店が273店オープンしていて、2025年1年間の225店を上回りました。2月から6月までは、毎月40店以上がオープンしました。2022年は、1年間でたった21店でした。

The rise stands out because the number of new Chinese restaurants overall is falling. New Chinese restaurants dropped from 1,361 in 2022 to 1,059 in 2025, while malatang's share of them grew from 1.5 percent to 21.2 percent.

この増え方が目立つのは、中華料理の店全体では、新しくできる数が減っているからです。新しくできた中華料理の店は、2022年の1361店から2025年には1059店に減りましたが、その中でマーラータンの店が占める割合は1.5％から21.2％に増えました。

The boom has also spread beyond big cities. Of the 273 shops that opened this year, 165, or about 60 percent, are outside the greater Tokyo area.

A food business consultant wrote in June that the soup is especially popular with young women. He said the fun of choosing ingredients is a key reason for its success. Malatang also appeared among 50 nominees for a buzzword award based on a survey of about 1,000 junior high and high school girls. The cooking website Foodist Service also named it the top food word of the first half of 2026.
