4月19日は何の日？

なぜこの日？政府の食育推進基本計画で定められた日。「食育」の「育（いく）」を「19」と読む語呂合わせ。毎年6月は「食育月間」で、6月19日は特に大切にされている。

なぜこの日？寛政12年（1800年）の閏4月19日、伊能忠敬（いのうただたか）が蝦夷地（北海道）の測量のため江戸を出発した。55歳からの挑戦で、のちに日本初の精密な全国地図を完成させた。

On the 19th day of the leap fourth month in 1800, Ino Tadataka left Edo to survey Hokkaido. Starting at age 55, he went on to make Japan's first accurate map of the whole country.

なぜこの日？岐阜県飛騨（ひだ）市古川町の気多若宮神社の例祭で、毎年4月19日と20日に行われる。19日夜、さらし姿の男たちが大太鼓「起し太鼓」を担いで町を巡り、激しくもみ合う行事が有名。

This festival of Ketawakamiya Shrine in Hida, Gifu, is held every April 19 and 20. On the night of the 19th, crowds of men fight to get close to a giant drum called "Okoshi Daiko."

なぜこの日？「し(4)い(1)く(9)」＝飼育の語呂合わせ。動物園や水族館の飼育の仕事を知ってもらおうと、多摩動物公園の発案で日本動物園水族館協会が2009年に制定。

In Japanese, 4-1-9 can be read as "shi-i-ku," meaning animal keeping. Zoos and aquariums across Japan use this day to show the work of their animal keepers.

なぜこの日？江戸時代、馬に乗ることは武士だけに許されていた。明治4年（1871年）4月19日、庶民にも乗馬が許可されたことにちなむ。

This is the main festival of Sekito Shrine in Ichinomiya, Aichi, held every April 19. On the following Sunday, festival floats and decorated horses are offered to the shrine.
