LINEで「既読」をつけずに読める新機能、台湾でも導入へ　日本では試験中

LINE's company in Taiwan said on October 13 that it will add a new feature to the app. With it, users can read messages without showing the read mark to the sender.

LINEの台湾の会社が10月13日、アプリに新しい機能を加えると発表しました。この機能を使うと、送った人に「既読」のマークを見せずにメッセージを読むことができます。

In Japan, this mark is called kidoku. It appears next to a message when the other person opens it. The company said some users feel stress because of the mark.

日本では、このマークは「既読」とよばれています。相手がメッセージを開くと、そのメッセージの横に出ます。会社によると、このマークのせいでストレスを感じる人がいます。

LINE started testing a similar feature in Japan in early October. Users press and hold a chat in their chat list. Then they can read old messages in a small window. If they only scroll, the mark does not appear.

LINEは10月の初めに、日本でも同じような機能のテストを始めました。使う人は、トークの一覧で読みたいトークを長押しします。すると、小さな画面で前のメッセージまで読めます。画面を動かして読むだけなら、既読はつきません。

LINE was born in 2011, the year of the Great East Japan Earthquake. The head of LINE in Taiwan said the read mark was made after the earthquake. If a message was read, people could guess that the other person was safe.

LINEは、東日本大震災が起きた2011年に生まれました。LINEの台湾の会社のトップは、既読のマークは震災のあとに作られたと話しました。メッセージが読まれれば、相手が無事だとわかる手がかりになったのです。

LY Corporation's unit in Taiwan said on October 13 that it will let LINE users read messages without the sender knowing. The company said the aim is to ease the pressure that some users feel when the read mark appears. The plan was announced at an event in Taipei.

LINEヤフーの台湾の法人は10月13日、送った人に知られずにLINEのメッセージを読めるようにすると発表しました。会社は、既読のマークがつくことで一部の利用者が感じるプレッシャーを和らげるのがねらいだと説明しました。この計画は、台北で開かれた説明会で発表されました。

The read mark, known in English as a read receipt, appears next to a message once the other person has opened it. In Japan, the mark is called kidoku.

既読のマークは、英語では read receipt とよばれ、相手がメッセージを開くとその横に表示されます。日本では、このマークは「既読」とよばれています。

The Liberty Times, a Taiwanese newspaper, reported that the tool is one of six features planned for LINE Premium, a paid service that began in Taiwan in March. One feature will let users preview a whole message without sending a read receipt, and another will let them choose when the receipt is shown. They are set to arrive between late 2026 and early 2027, but no date has been set for the read feature.

台湾の新聞の自由時報によると、この機能は、3月に台湾で始まった有料サービス「LINE Premium」に予定されている6つの機能の1つです。1つは、既読をつけずにメッセージ全体を見られる機能、もう1つは、既読をいつ相手に見せるかを自分で決められる機能です。6つの機能は2026年の終わりごろから2027年の前半にかけて順に登場する予定ですが、既読の機能がいつ始まるかはまだ決まっていません。

In Japan, LINE began testing a similar tool called Scroll Preview in early October. Users with version 26.15.0 or later of the app can turn it on in LINE Labs, a menu for trial features. Pressing and holding a chat in the list opens a preview window, where users can scroll back through older messages. The receipt appears only if they tap a message or the bottom of the window, which opens the chat. The tool is free for now. The company plans to make it part of its paid LYP Premium service later.

日本ではLINEが10月上旬、「スクロールプレビュー」という似た機能の試験を始めました。バージョン26.15.0以降のアプリを使っている人は、試験中の機能を集めたメニュー「LINEラボ」でこの機能をオンにできます。トークの一覧でトークを長押しするとプレビュー画面が開き、スクロールして前のメッセージまでさかのぼれます。既読がつくのは、メッセージや画面の下の部分をタップしてトークを開いたときだけです。この機能はいまは無料です。会社は、あとで有料サービス「LYPプレミアム」の特典にする予定です。

LINE was launched in 2011, after the Great East Japan Earthquake had caused serious problems with phone networks. The chairman of LINE Taiwan said the read receipt was created after the disaster so that people could easily check whether a message had been seen. LY Corporation says a read message can suggest that the other person is safe, even if they cannot reply. The chairman also said that people in Taiwan feel stress from the mark, just as some do in Japan.

LINEは、東日本大震災で電話などの通信に大きな障害が起きたあとの2011年に始まりました。LINE台湾の会長は、既読は震災をきっかけに、メッセージが読まれたかを簡単に確かめられるように作られたと話しました。LINEヤフーは、相手が返信できないときでも、既読がつけば無事だと推測できると説明しています。会長は、日本と同じように台湾でもこのマークにストレスを感じる人がいるとも話しました。
