A mechanic in Italy has built the narrowest car that can be driven. The car is only 50.2 centimeters wide. That is narrower than a school desk.

An Italian mechanic has been recognized by Guinness World Records for building the world's narrowest drivable car. The one-person vehicle measures just 50.2 centimeters, or 19.76 inches, across. It appears in Guinness World Records 2027, which was released in September 2026.

The project began in 2024, when a 1993 Fiat Panda in good condition arrived at the mechanic's family scrapyard in Bagnolo Cremasco, northern Italy. The original car was 1.46 meters wide and 3.38 meters long, so the finished version is only about a third as wide. The mechanic, who is 31, wanted to show the car at a yearly gathering of Panda fans. The mechanic is a big fan of Fiat cars.

To slim the car down, he removed the doors and side panels and then cut out the center of the body. After that, he welded the remaining pieces back together and made new windows and body panels to fit. Even the steering system had to be made smaller. Despite all the changes, about 90 percent of the car still comes from the original Panda.

Guinness World Records said the car is named Panda per Uno, which means Panda for One in Italian. The mechanic drives it only at fairs, events and controlled demonstrations.
