A total solar eclipse crossed Greenland, Iceland and Spain on August 12, 2026. The Moon covered the Sun completely, and the sky became dark.

It was the first total solar eclipse in mainland Spain in more than 100 years. In Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland, it was the first one since 1433.

Millions of people went outside to watch. In Spain, the sky was mostly clear, and the eclipse happened near sunset. In Iceland, clouds and rain hid the Sun in many places. Still, one reporter there felt the air get about 6 degrees cooler.

The dark part of the eclipse lasted only one or two minutes. Spain will see another total solar eclipse on August 2, 2027. In some places, that eclipse will last more than six minutes.
