科学の長文は「定説（It was long believed that 〜／Scientists used to think 〜）→新しい研究（However, recent studies have shown 〜）→意味づけ」の型が王道。設問は「昔の考え」と「今わかったこと」を取り違えた選択肢で引っかける。また日常語の theory は「推測」だが、科学の theory は証拠で何度も検証された体系的な説明（進化論＝the theory of evolution）。hypothesis（仮説）は検証できる形の個別の予想・説明。
