ベビーカーのような和製英語は「通じない」で済むが、claim・smart・naive のように英語にも存在する語は、カタカナの意味で読むと長文の内容を取り違える。He claimed that... は「彼は〜と主張した」であって苦情ではない。英語にもある語ほど要注意。
