A型、B型、O型、AB型。

There are four ABO blood types. They are A, B, O and AB. The types come from different kinds of sugar on red blood cells. Humans are not the only animals with A and B types. Many monkeys and apes have them too.
Scientists think these types have existed for tens of millions of years. Why have they lasted so long? One reason may be that each type protects against different diseases.

A型、B型、O型、AB型です。
Q1. What is the passage mainly about?
Q2. What makes the blood types different?
The types come from different kinds of sugar on red blood cells.
Q3. In this passage, "protects against" means ...
ABO blood types depend on the sugar chains attached to the surface of red blood cells. People with type A or B have enzymes that add a particular sugar, while people with type O do not. Humans are not alone here. Gibbons, Old World monkeys and many other primates have the same A and B types. In 2012, a team led by Ségurel analyzed genetic data and concluded that each species did not invent these types again and again.
Instead, the types have been passed down from a common ancestor for tens of millions of years. Many scientists think infections explain this. One blood type may protect people against certain diseases but make them more likely to catch others.

Q1. What do people with type O lack?
People with type A or B have enzymes that add a particular sugar, while people with type O do not とあるので D。
Q2. What did Ségurel's team conclude in 2012?
the types have been passed down from a common ancestor とあるので A。
Q3. Why might infections help keep several blood types in a population?
One blood type may protect people against certain diseases but make them more likely to catch others
Discovered around 1900, the ABO blood groups were the first genetic polymorphism identified in humans, and their purpose is still a puzzle. The types reflect sugar chains on red blood cells. Types A and B carry enzymes that attach particular sugars, while type O lacks a working enzyme. Many primates have the same A and B types, determined by changes at the same amino acid positions. For a long time, researchers assumed these had evolved separately in each species.
Then in 2012, Ségurel and colleagues analyzed genetic variation in humans, gibbons and Old World monkeys. The data fitted an ancient trans-species polymorphism, kept alive by balancing selection for tens of millions of years. Infection is the leading explanation. Bacteria, viruses and parasites can use blood group sugars as attachment sites, so if each type protects against some pathogens but not others, no single type would win out.
The evidence is patchy, though. Most links between blood type and disease come from observational studies with small effects, and no one knows which diseases did the selecting. One early case came in 1993, when the stomach bacterium Helicobacter pylori was shown to latch on through a blood group-related antigen.
