サイバー攻撃で冷蔵庫が50度に！フランスのスーパー数百店で食品がだめに

Hackers attacked fridges in hundreds of supermarkets in France. It happened during the night of October 11. The hackers made the fridges and freezers very hot.

フランスの何百ものスーパーで、ハッカーが冷蔵庫を攻撃しました。それは10月11日の夜に起きました。ハッカーは、冷蔵庫と冷凍庫をとても熱くしました。

Some fridges reached 50 degrees Celsius. That is much hotter than a very hot summer day. One big supermarket chain said 80 of its stores were affected. Fresh and frozen food went bad, so stores had to throw it away.

The fridges were connected to the internet. This let the hackers change the temperature from far away. But the fridges used old software. It did not get security updates anymore.

Some fires were also reported. Officials in Paris have started an investigation. The losses could reach millions of euros. No one knows who did it yet.

Hackers remotely raised the temperature of fridges and freezers at hundreds of supermarkets across France overnight from October 11 to 12. The attack began late on Sunday night. In some stores, the units heated up to 50 degrees Celsius, spoiling fresh and frozen food. Fires were also reported at some sites.

10月11日から12日にかけての夜、ハッカーがフランス各地の何百ものスーパーで、冷蔵庫と冷凍庫の温度を遠隔で上げました。攻撃は日曜日の夜おそくに始まりました。一部の店では機器が50度まで熱くなり、生鮮食品や冷凍食品がだめになりました。いくつかの場所では火事も報告されました。

Several of the country's largest grocery chains were hit, including Carrefour, Monoprix, E.Leclerc and Coopérative U. Carrefour said 80 of its supermarkets were affected. Les Mousquetaires, the group that runs Intermarché, said at least 150 of its stores were hit. Intermarché said its affected stores would have to throw away all of their fresh and frozen products. The head of Coopérative U called the attack unprecedented.

The cooling units were connected to the internet, which allowed the hackers to change their settings from a distance. The systems ran outdated software that no longer received security updates, which gave the attackers a way in. Security updates fix weak points that attackers can use to break into a system. Devices like these, which link everyday machines to the internet, are often called the Internet of Things.

The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into what it described as a large-scale cyberattack. Investigators aim to identify the victims and link them to the food losses and fires. No one has been named as responsible for the attack. The cost of the spoiled food could reach millions of euros.
