The Pokémon Company announced two new main Pokémon games on February 27, 2026. They are called Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. The games will come out in 2027 for the Nintendo Switch 2.

February 27 is Pokémon Day. The first Pokémon games came out in Japan on that day in 1996. This year is Pokémon's 30th anniversary.

The new games will take place in a new region. A short video showed beaches, caves and places under the sea. Players will choose one of three new partner Pokémon.

The news came during a Pokémon Presents online broadcast held on Pokémon Day. The date marks the release of the first Pokémon games in Japan on February 27, 1996. The show was the final part of a 30th anniversary showcase that also featured news about other Pokémon games.

As in every new generation, players will pick one of three first partner Pokémon. This time, the choices are a Grass-type chick, a Fire-type puppy and a Water-type gecko. The player character's outfit will change depending on which version is played. The games will also be the first in the series to offer Brazilian Portuguese as a language option.
