Researchers in China made a test vehicle reach 700 kilometers per hour in about two seconds. Chinese state TV reported the test on December 25, 2025.

The test track was only 400 meters long. That is about one lap of a stadium running track. The vehicle weighed about one ton. After the run, it stopped safely.

The vehicle was a maglev. A maglev uses strong magnets to float above the track. It does not touch the rails, so it can go very fast.

Its top speed was more than twice as fast as Japan's fastest shinkansen. But the vehicle was not a train for passengers.

The team said the technology may be used for super-fast travel in tubes in the future. It may also help to launch rockets. The team has worked on maglev research for about 10 years.
