世界一背が高い馬はイギリスのヒューゴ！肩までの高さ199cm

A horse named Hugo is now the tallest living horse in the world. Guinness World Records announced the record in September 2026. Hugo lives on a farm in Towcester, England.

ヒューゴという名前の馬が、いま生きている馬の中で世界一背が高い馬になりました。2026年9月、ギネス世界記録がこの記録を発表しました。ヒューゴはイングランドのトウスターにある農場で暮らしています。

People measure a horse from the ground to its shoulders. Hugo is 199 centimeters tall at the shoulders. That is taller than most people. His head is even higher.

Hugo is a Shire horse. Shire horses are big and strong, and they once worked on farms. Hugo was four years old when he was measured. His owners say he is still growing.

A four-year-old Shire horse from England has been named the tallest living horse in the world. The horse, Hugo, measures 199 centimeters, or 19.2 hands, from the ground to his withers. Guinness World Records announced the title in September 2026, and Hugo appears in its 2027 book.

Horses are measured to the withers, the high point at the base of the neck between the shoulder blades. Hugo was measured on December 2, 2025. A hand is an old unit used for horses, and it equals four inches, or about 10 centimeters. Guinness World Records said Hugo weighs about 890 kilograms.

馬の高さは、首のつけ根の肩甲骨の間にある一番高い部分、き甲まではかります。ヒューゴの高さがはかられたのは2025年12月2日でした。ハンドは馬に使われる昔からの単位で、4インチ、つまり約10センチにあたります。ギネス世界記録によると、ヒューゴの体重は約890キロです。

Hugo lives on a farm in Towcester, Northamptonshire, where he has been since he was 18 months old. Shire horses are known for their pulling power and were once used on farms and to tow boats along canals. Even so, his owners did not expect him to grow so big, because his parents were not unusually tall.

ヒューゴはノーサンプトンシャー州トウスターの農場に、生後18か月のときから住んでいます。シャイヤーは引く力の強さで知られ、かつては農場や、運河で船を引く仕事に使われていました。それでも、両親は特に背が高いわけではなかったため、飼い主はヒューゴがこれほど大きくなるとは思っていませんでした。

His owner said he is gentle and friendly, almost like a very large pet dog. He is fond of bananas, and his owner needs a step stool to climb onto his back. He also visits local festivals and country shows.

Hugo has not beaten every record yet. The previous tallest living horse, a Belgian draft horse called Big Jake, stood 210 centimeters and died in 2021. The tallest horse ever reported was a Shire named Sampson, which was said to be about 2.2 meters tall in 1850. Hugo's owners expect him to keep growing until he is at least seven years old.

ただし、ヒューゴはまだすべての記録を破ったわけではありません。前に生きている馬で最も背が高かったのは、ベルギー種のビッグ・ジェイクで、高さ210センチでしたが、2021年に死にました。記録に残る史上最も背の高い馬は、1850年に約2.2メートルあったとされるシャイヤーのサンプソンです。飼い主は、ヒューゴが少なくとも7歳になるまでは大きくなり続けると考えています。
