A squishy toy brand called Mellojoy opened its first shop in Japan on September 9. The shop is in Harajuku, Tokyo.

Squishy toys are soft toys that you squeeze in your hand. When you press a Mellojoy toy, it sinks slowly. Then it slowly goes back to its first shape. Many of the toys look like sweets, and some look like sushi.

In June, the marketing company AMF shared a ranking of trends. It asked about 1,000 junior high and high school girls in Japan. Mellojoy came first in the goods group. The clothing company WEGO also said squishy toys were a big trend.

The toys became popular on social media like TikTok. New toys often sell out very quickly. Some fans call the brand Murijoy, because muri means impossible in Japanese. To enter the Harajuku shop, people have to book a time first.
