折りたたみiPhone「iPhone Duo」発表！値段・発売日・画面の折り目は？

Apple has announced its first iPhone that folds. It is called the iPhone Duo. Apple showed the phone on September 9 in the United States.

アップルが、初めての折りたためるiPhoneを発表しました。名前は「iPhone Duo」です。アップルは9月9日、アメリカでこのスマホを発表しました。

The phone opens like a small book. When it is open, the screen measures 7.6 inches. That is about 19 centimeters from corner to corner. When it is closed, people can use a smaller screen on the outside.

このスマホは、小さな本のように開きます。開くと、画面の大きさは7.6インチです。これは、角から角までで約19センチです。閉じているときは、外側にある小さめの画面を使えます。

The phone goes on sale on October 23. In the United States, it starts at 1,999 dollars. In Japan, the price starts at 364,800 yen.

このスマホは10月23日に発売されます。アメリカでの値段は1999ドルからです。日本では36万4800円からです。

Folding screens often have a line in the middle. Some people online have talked about the line on the iPhone Duo. Apple says a special screen surface makes the line harder to see.

The iPhone Duo is expensive even by smartphone standards. It starts at 1,999 dollars in the United States and 364,800 yen in Japan for the model with 256 gigabytes of storage. In Japan, the largest model costs 574,800 yen. Versions with up to 2 terabytes are also available, and the phone comes in two colors, star white and night sky.

iPhone Duoは、スマホの基準で見ても高価です。256ギガバイトのモデルで、アメリカでは1999ドル、日本では36万4800円からです。日本では、いちばん容量の大きいモデルは57万4800円です。最大2テラバイトのモデルもあり、色はスターホワイトとナイトスカイの2色です。

To fit the folding design, Apple changed some familiar features. A camera for video calls sits beneath the inner display and stays hidden when it is not in use. The phone is unlocked with a fingerprint sensor built into the side button. Apple said the hinge contains more than 100 components and lets the screen lie flat when opened. It also supports the Apple Pencil for handwriting. Apple said the battery lasts up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner screen.

Like other foldable phones, the iPhone Duo has a crease where the screen bends. After the launch event, photos taken by visitors that showed the crease spread on social media and sparked debate. Apple said a special matte finish on the inner display reduces glare and makes the crease less visible.

ほかの折りたたみスマホと同じように、iPhone Duoにも画面が曲がるところに折り目があります。発表会のあと、来場者が撮った折り目の見える写真がSNSで広まり、議論になりました。アップルは、内側の画面の特別なつや消し加工が光の反射をおさえ、折り目を見えにくくしていると説明しました。
