  • Part 1:Where do you live? / How often do you use your phone?
  • Part 3:How will cities change in the future? / Has technology improved people's lives?

Q: Where do you live?

I live in a residential area on the outskirts of a mid-sized city. It's about thirty minutes from the centre by train, so it's quite convenient, but it's much quieter than downtown.

Q: What do you like about your area?

I really like the fact that there's a big park just five minutes from my home. I often go jogging there in the mornings, and on weekends it's full of families having picnics.

Q: Has your area changed much in recent years?

Yes, quite a lot. A few years ago, a large shopping centre opened near the station, and since then, the area has become much busier. There are more cafés now, but the traffic has also got worse.

  • on the outskirts of(〜の郊外に)
  • residential area(住宅街)
  • within walking distance(歩いて行ける距離に)
  • I like the fact that...(〜という点が好き)
  • has become much busier(ずっとにぎやかになった)

Q: How often do you use your smartphone?

Honestly, far more than I should. I use it for everything from checking train times to reading the news, so it's probably the first thing I look at every morning.

Q: What apps do you use most?

Mainly messaging and map apps. I also use a language-learning app for about ten minutes a day, which has become part of my routine.

Q: Do you think you rely too much on technology?

To some extent, yes. Last month my phone battery died while I was out, and I realised I couldn't even find my way to a restaurant without it.

  • far more than I should(必要以上に)
  • everything from A to B(AからBまで何でも)
  • part of my routine(日課の一部)
  • rely on / depend on(〜に頼る)
  • to some extent(ある程度は)

The place I'd like to describe is the public library near my local station. It was rebuilt a few years ago, so it's a modern building with huge windows that let in lots of natural light...

Q(練習例): What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in a big city?

The main advantage is convenience. Big cities offer more job opportunities and better public transport. However, living costs tend to be much higher, and many people find the crowds and noise stressful.

Q(練習例): How might technology change cities in the future?

I think we might see more automated public transport and smarter energy systems. That could make cities cleaner and more efficient. But I also think there's a risk that people who aren't comfortable with technology, such as some elderly residents, could be left behind.

  • We might see...(〜が見られるかもしれない)
  • It's likely that...(〜の可能性が高い)
  • There's a risk that...(〜という恐れがある)
  • be left behind(取り残される)

  • 変化を説明するときの時制(has become, used to be)が不正確

I haven't thought about it much, but I suppose...

Where do you live?
