イタリアのヴィンチ村の近くに生まれ、フィレンツェの画家ヴェロッキオの工房で修業しました。ミラノで「最後の晩餐」を描き、その後「モナ・リザ」に何年もかけて取り組みます。人の体のしくみ、鳥の飛び方、水の流れなどを研究し、ばく大な量のノートを残しました。晩年はフランス王フランソワ1世に招かれ、フランスのアンボワーズで亡くなりました。
Leonardo was born near the village of Vinci in Italy. He trained in the workshop of the painter Verrocchio in Florence. In Milan he painted The Last Supper, and later he worked on the Mona Lisa for many years. He studied the human body, the flight of birds and the movement of water, and filled thousands of notebook pages. In his last years, King Francis I invited him to France, and he died in Amboise.
