Joto Kaiwai Tops Egg's Buzzword List
1The Japanese gal magazine egg has picked joto kaiwai as its top buzzword of 2026. Its publisher, HJ Inc. in Tokyo, released the top 10 list on November 2. The phrase refers to people who are a little wild and act tough, and also to that kind of attitude.
2Joto kaiwai began with a dating reality show featuring a former egg model and a model from its sister magazine nuts. The phrase itself spread from posts by the nuts model, and people began using it on social media. They now apply it to someone's looks, character or general mood. The publisher said the joto attitude itself became a big boom.
3Second place went to frenemy, a blend of the English words friend and enemy. It describes a person who seems friendly but is secretly an enemy. Bari kimazui, meaning extremely awkward, came third after spreading through TikTok and other videos. In fourth was dopagaki, a joking label people use for themselves when they keep watching short videos to get the next thrill.
4The editors surveyed models, reader models and other gals connected to egg, nuts and the children's gal media KOGYARU. The respondents ranged from elementary school students to people in their 20s. The survey used an online form and ran from September 28 to October 2. The editors also studied social media trends before making their own final choice. The release did not say how many people answered.
5Three words in the top 10 came from content that featured or was made by the magazines' own models. egg first came out in September 1995 and had a circulation of 500,000 copies at its peak. It stopped printing in May 2014 and returned as a website in March 2018.

32位は、英語の friend(友だち)と enemy(敵)を混ぜた「フレネミー」でした。
本文の a dating reality show featuring a former egg model(eggの元モデルが出演している恋愛リアリティ番組)がその例。a dating reality show that featured a former egg model … と関係代名詞で言うのと同じ意味を、短く表せる。
