Study Links Fear of Closeness to Social Media Problems
1Some people want to be close to others but are afraid to depend on them. These people may find it harder to stop using social media, a U.S. study found. Researchers at Longwood University asked 555 adults in the United States to answer questions online. They were 18 to 79 years old.
2Some of the questions were about close relationships. They measured how much people worry that others will not be there for them. They also measured how uncomfortable people feel being close to others. Other questions asked how people used social media.
3The researchers put the people into four groups. People in the secure group trust others and feel safe being close to them. This group had the fewest problems with social media. People in the fearful group want to be close to others but are afraid to depend on them. This group had the most problems.
4The study does not show that one thing causes the other. The researchers said they asked only people in the United States.

文法ポイント:形容詞+to 不定詞(be afraid to ~)
People in the fearful group want to be close to others but are afraid to depend on them.
