Pokémon UNITE to End Service in March 2027

1Pokémon UNITE, a free-to-play team battle game for Nintendo Switch and smartphones, will shut down at 9 a.m. Japan time on March 23, 2027. The game's team announced the decision on October 27. Once the service ends, players will no longer be able to log in or join battles. Many fans reacted to the sudden news with surprise online.

2In Pokémon UNITE, two teams of five players control Pokémon and work together to beat the other side. Games of this type are often called MOBAs, short for multiplayer online battle arenas. The game launched on the Switch in July 2021 and reached smartphones that September. In December 2022, The Pokémon Company said it had passed 100 million downloads.

3Sales of gems, the game's paid currency, stopped at 2 p.m. Japan time on the day of the announcement. New sign-ups and automatic renewals for the UNITE Membership also ended. The team plans to refund paid gems that players have not used. It has asked players not to delete the game or uninstall the app until their refund is complete.

4A feature called Library is set to arrive with an update on November 12. After the shutdown, it will let players view their battle records and licenses. Players will also be able to check holowear, the costumes that Pokémon wear in the game, in a practice area. However, only players who download the needed data by 9 a.m. on March 23 will be able to use it.

5The official tournament Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 will still go ahead as planned. Its qualifying rounds are set to begin on December 5.

本文の paid gems that players have not used は「プレーヤーがまだ使っていない有料ジェム」。
