Sakurazaka46 Sets a New High for Female Acts This Chart Year

1Sakurazaka46's latest single, "Ai MUST BE," sold about 565,000 copies in its first week, debuting at No. 1 on Oricon's weekly singles chart. The ranking, which covered sales from Oct. 12 to 18, was announced on Oct. 20. The CD went on sale on Oct. 14.

2Oricon is a Japanese company that tracks music sales and publishes charts every week. A single's first-week sales figure is the number of copies it sells in its first week on the chart. Oricon said this was the highest first-week total by a female artist in its current chart year, which began with the chart dated Dec. 22, 2025. The previous best was about 559,000 copies, set by AKB48 earlier in the chart year.

3The group also reached No. 1 on two other Oricon charts that week, giving it top spots on three charts. On the combined singles chart, which turns CD sales, streams and downloads into points, the single earned 588,956 points. A digital edition with all seven songs from the five CD versions also debuted at No. 1 on the weekly digital album chart. Oricon said it was the group's 15th No. 1 single.

4Third-generation member Airi Taniguchi was picked as the center for the title song. It is the first time she has led a single's title song from the middle of the formation.

5Sakurazaka46 is scheduled to hold its 6th YEAR ANNIVERSARY LIVE on Nov. 14 and 15. The two shows will take place at ZOZO Marine Stadium in Chiba.
