ANA Shows Off Its Chiikawa Jet a Day Before Takeoff

1All Nippon Airways has unveiled a passenger jet decorated with characters from the hit Japanese comic Chiikawa. The airline showed the plane, called the Chiikawa Jet, in a hangar at Haneda Airport in Tokyo on Oct. 18. The jet is set to start flying passengers the next morning.

2The aircraft is a Boeing 767-300. Eight characters, including Chiikawa, Hachiware and Usagi, are painted on its body. They are surrounded by images of things that can be seen in different parts of Japan through the four seasons.

3ANA first said in August that the Chiikawa Jet would start flying in late October. In early October, it set the date. The plane is scheduled to leave Haneda at 8:15 a.m. on Oct. 19 as Flight 661 to Nagasaki, and then return to Haneda. After its first trip, ANA will not keep the plane on a fixed route, so it will appear on various domestic routes.

4Passengers will find the characters inside the cabin as well. Economy class seats will have headrest covers showing the characters from the outside of the plane. Drinks will be served in limited-edition paper cups featuring Chiikawa, Hachiware and Usagi.

5The jet arrives during a big year for the series. An animated Chiikawa film opened in theaters on July 24. By Oct. 12, it had sold more than 17.9 billion yen in tickets, and over 12.29 million tickets had been sold.

全文訳

1全日本空輸（ANA）が、大人気の日本のマンガ「ちいかわ」のキャラクターで飾った旅客機を公開しました。ANAは10月18日、東京の羽田空港の格納庫で、「ちいかわジェット」と呼ばれるこの飛行機を見せました。この飛行機は、次の日の朝からお客さんを乗せて飛び始める予定です。

2機体はボーイング767-300型機です。ちいかわ、ハチワレ、うさぎなど8人のキャラクターが、機体に描かれています。そのまわりには、四季を通じて日本各地で見られるものの絵がちりばめられています。
