Idols Copy an Old Video Because of a Fried Rice Joke

1Idol groups in Japan are copying a scene from a music video made about 20 years ago. The video is for a 2006 song by Morning Musume. Fans call the song "Sekubo" for short.

2At the start of the video, the members walk past the camera one by one. Each member looks into the camera as she passes. On October 1, someone wrote about the scene on X. The post said the members looked like people watching frozen fried rice in a microwave. The post spread quickly.

3Two days later, the members of Morning Musume today copied the scene on TikTok. On October 6, AKB48 shared its own version. Other groups, such as INI and OCHA NORMA, joined in, too.

4In INI's video, the camera plays the fried rice. OCHA NORMA's video starts with someone opening the door of a microwave. Under the old video on YouTube, many new fans have left comments about fried rice.

全文訳

1日本のアイドルグループが、20年ほど前に作られたミュージックビデオの場面をまねしています。それは、モーニング娘。の2006年の曲のビデオです。ファンはこの曲を短く「セクボ」とよんでいます。

2ビデオの最初で、メンバーが1人ずつカメラの前を通りすぎます。メンバーはみんな、通りすぎるときにカメラをのぞきこみます。10月1日、ある人がXにこの場面のことを書きました。その投稿は「メンバーが、電子レンジの冷凍チャーハンを見ている人たちみたい」というものでした。その投稿は、あっというまに広まりました。

32日後、いまのモーニング娘。のメンバーが、TikTokでその場面をまねしました。10月6日には、AKB48が自分たちの版を公開しました。INIやOCHA NORMAなど、ほかのグループも加わりました。

4INIのビデオでは、カメラがチャーハンの役です。OCHA NORMAのビデオは、だれかが電子レンジのドアを開けるところから始まります。YouTubeの昔のビデオの下には、新しいファンがチャーハンについてのコメントをたくさん書きこんでいます。

文法ポイント：名詞を後ろから説明する ～ing（現在分詞）

名詞のすぐ後ろに ～ing を置くと「～している（名詞）」と説明できる。本文の people watching frozen fried rice は「冷凍チャーハンを見ている人たち」。同じ段落の a music video made about 20 years ago は過去分詞で「20年ほど前に作られたビデオ」。
