Polka Dots Return as Teen Fashion Favorite
1Polka dots have made a comeback this year as a major fashion trend among Japanese teenagers. Several surveys and a long-running street report have picked up the change.
2The Japanese company Mynavi surveyed 610 girls aged 13 to 19 from April 16 to 30. In its ranking of popular goods, released in June, polka dot items placed eighth. Mynavi said the boom grew out of Wishcore, a look inspired by the world of the K-pop group NCT WISH. The style has a retro and romantic mood, with stars and angel wings among its common designs.
3The fashion news site FASHIONSNAP regularly records what people wear on the streets of Harajuku in Tokyo. In a report published in July, it made polka dots a featured item for the first time in more than 30 years. Its earlier reports on the pattern date back to 1991 and 1993. The site found that most of the dots this spring were black on white.
4The pattern appeared on blouses, dresses, skirts and tight, thin tops, and by June it was spreading to bags and other accessories. Unlike stripes, it was worn almost only by women. FASHIONSNAP linked the trend to a girlish mood that has spread on the street.
5Polka dots were still on teenagers' lists after the summer. From September 15 to 21, a research company asked 200 high school students aged 15 to 18 what was popular. Polka dots tied for fourth place with 3.1 percent, while a video diary app called setlog came first with 33.9 percent. The company released the results on October 2.

本文の a look inspired by the world of the K-pop group は「K-POPグループの世界観から着想を得たスタイル」、a video diary app called setlog は「setlog と呼ばれる動画日記アプリ」。
