1A baked sweet from Shanghai called butter mochi is catching on with Japanese high school students. It is crispy outside and chewy inside.

2Shibuya Trend Research asked 200 high school students about trends in September. Butter mochi tied for third place in the food ranking with 3.7 percent. In June, it was sixth with 2.4 percent. One student said it often appears on TikTok.

3The sweet is made with rice flour, butter and milk. It is baked in an oven like a small cake. Some students even make it at home with recipes from social media.

4Butter mochi became popular in South Korea early this year. In July, the convenience store chain Lawson started selling its own butter mochi in Japan.

5Many teenagers in Japan like chewy food. The company Mynavi asked 267 teenage girls about food in 2025. Of them, 47.6 percent chose mochi-mochi, the Japanese word for chewy, as a tasty texture. It was the top answer.

全文訳

1上海生まれの「バター餅」という焼き菓子が、日本の高校生のあいだで人気になってきています。外はカリッとしていて、中はもちもちしています。

2渋谷トレンドリサーチが9月、高校生200人に流行について聞きました。食べ物のランキングで、バター餅は3.7％で同率3位になりました。6月の調査では、2.4％で6位でした。ある生徒は、TikTokでよく見かけると話しています。

3バター餅は、もち米の粉とバター、牛乳で作ります。小さなケーキのように、オーブンで焼きます。SNSのレシピを見て、家で作る生徒もいます。

4バター餅は今年のはじめ、韓国で人気になりました。7月には、コンビニのローソンが日本で自分の店のバター餅を売り始めました。

5日本の10代には、もちもちした食べ物が好きな人がたくさんいます。マイナビという会社が2025年、10代の女子267人に食べ物について聞きました。そのうち47.6％が、おいしそうな食感として「もちもち」を選びました。これがいちばん多い答えでした。

文法ポイント：受け身（be動詞 + 過去分詞）

「〜される」を表す。本文の The sweet is made with rice flour ... は「そのお菓子はもち米の粉…で作られる」、It is baked in an oven は「オーブンで焼かれる」という意味。
