Two Prices for a Famous Castle in Kyoto
1Kyoto plans to charge visitors from outside the city more to enter Nijo Castle. The castle is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
2Kyoto Mayor Koji Matsui announced the plan on October 1. Now, adults pay 1,300 yen to see the castle and its palace. Under the plan, people who live in Kyoto would pay 1,000 yen. Visitors from outside the city would pay 2,000 yen.
3This kind of system is called dual pricing. The city says it needs more money to protect and repair the old buildings.
4The city will ask its assembly to change the rules in November. It hopes to start the new prices in fiscal 2027. Elementary and junior high school students who live in Kyoto can already enter for free.

文法ポイント:助動詞 would(~することになる)
本文の people who live in Kyoto would pay 1,000 yen は「(計画が実現すれば)京都市民は1000円をはらうことになる」という意味。
