1A special Tamagotchi exhibition opened in Tokyo on January 7, 2026. Visitors enter it through a giant white egg. The show celebrates 30 years of the tiny digital pet.

2Tamagotchi first went on sale in Japan on November 23, 1996. Its name comes from the Japanese words for egg and watch. Players feed their pet and take care of it. If they forget, the pet can get sick.

3Tamagotchi was a huge hit in the 1990s. In Japan, 10 million were sold in just eight months. By July 2025, 100 million had been shipped around the world.

4Now the toy is popular again. Many young people wear them on keychains as fashion items. Some fans from the 1990s now play with their own children. The newest model, Tamagotchi Paradise, has a dial for zooming in and out.

12026年1月7日、東京で「たまごっち」の特別な展示が始まりました。来場者は、巨大な白いたまごを通って中に入ります。この展示は、小さなデジタルペットの30周年を祝うものです。

2たまごっちは1996年11月23日に日本で初めて発売されました。名前は、日本語の「たまご」と「ウオッチ」からきています。遊ぶ人はペットにごはんをあげて、お世話をします。お世話をわすれると、ペットは病気になってしまうこともあります。

3たまごっちは1990年代に大ヒットしました。日本では、わずか8か月で1000万個が売れました。2025年7月までに、世界での出荷数は1億個に達しました。

4いま、このおもちゃは再び人気を集めています。多くの若者が、キーホルダーにつけておしゃれアイテムとして身につけています。1990年代のファンの中には、いまは自分の子どもといっしょに遊んでいる人もいます。最新の「たまごっちパラダイス」には、画面を拡大したり縮小したりするダイヤルがついています。

文法ポイント：if（もし～なら）

if のあとに条件を書き、「もし～なら、…」を表す。本文の If they forget, the pet can get sick. は「もし（お世話を）わすれたら、ペットは病気になることがある」という意味。if の中は未来のことでも現在形を使う。
