No Phones in Class in South Korea
1South Korea has a new law that bans phones in classrooms. The National Assembly passed the law on August 27, 2025. The law started on March 1, 2026, just before the new school year.
2The rule is for elementary, junior high, and high school students. Students cannot use phones or other smart devices during class. Teachers can also stop phone use in other parts of the school. Students may use them for studying or in an emergency.
3Many parents in South Korea worry that teenagers use phones too much. In a 2024 government survey, 43 percent of people aged 10 to 19 depended on phones too much.
4One high school student said he did not agree with the ban. He said students would still use phones on the way to school and in bed.
5Other countries have similar rules. In Italy, the Netherlands, and China, every school has limits on phones. But only a few countries have put a ban like this in their laws.

文法ポイント:助動詞 can / cannot / may
Students may use them for studying ...
