1Summer McIntosh of Canada set three world records in five days at the Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria, British Columbia, in June 2025. The 18-year-old from Toronto broke records in the 400-meter freestyle, the 200-meter individual medley and the 400-meter individual medley.

2The first record came on June 7 in the 400-meter freestyle. The race took place at the Commonwealth Place pool in Victoria. McIntosh touched the wall in 3 minutes and 54.18 seconds. That was 1.20 seconds faster than the mark set by Australia's Ariarne Titmus in 2023.

3Two days later, she won the 200-meter individual medley in 2 minutes and 5.70 seconds. In the individual medley, a swimmer uses all four strokes in one race. The four strokes are butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Her time broke Hungarian swimmer Katinka Hosszu's record of 2:06.12, which had stood since 2015. McIntosh beat the old time by 0.42 seconds.

4On June 11, McIntosh lowered her own world record in the 400-meter individual medley to 4:23.65. Her old mark of 4:24.38 had been set at the Canadian Olympic trials in Toronto in May 2024. At the same meet, she also set Canadian records in the 800-meter freestyle and the 200-meter butterfly. Her 800-meter freestyle time was 8 minutes and 5.07 seconds.

5McIntosh was already a star before the trials. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, she won three gold medals and one silver. She became the first Canadian to win three golds at a single Olympic Games.
