New Godzilla Movie Has a Big First Day

1The new Godzilla movie, Godzilla Minus Zero, opened in Japan on November 3. The movie had a very strong first morning. By 11 a.m., it had made about twice as much money as the last movie. Both movies' sales were counted at 11 a.m. on their first days.

2The last movie, Godzilla Minus One, came out in 2023. It made 7.65 billion yen in Japan. It also won an Academy Award for its visual effects.

3The actors and director Takashi Yamazaki met fans at a theater in Tokyo on the first day. Actor Ryunosuke Kamiki thanked the fans for the big start. He said the numbers show that Godzilla is loved by many people.

4The story takes place two years after the last movie. Godzilla's old enemy, King Ghidorah, also appears. At the end of the event, fans saw its shape and heard its roar on the screen. The movie will open in North America on November 6.

1ゴジラの新しい映画『ゴジラ-0.0』が、11月3日に日本で公開されました。映画は、初日の朝からとても好調でした。午前11時までに、前の映画の約2倍のお金が入りました。どちらの映画も、公開初日の午前11時の時点の売り上げでくらべています。

2前の映画『ゴジラ-1.0』は、2023年に公開されました。日本で76億5000万円を売り上げました。映像の特殊効果で、アカデミー賞も受賞しました。

3初日には、出演者と山崎貴監督が東京の映画館でファンの前に立ちました。俳優の神木隆之介さんは、好スタートについてファンに感謝しました。この数字は、ゴジラが多くの人に愛されているしるしだと話しました。

文法ポイント：倍数の表し方（twice as ～ as …）

〈twice as ＋ 形容詞・副詞 ＋ as …〉で「…の2倍～」。3倍なら three times as ～ as …。本文の about twice as much money as the last movie は「前の映画の約2倍のお金」。much money のように〈much ＋ 名詞〉をはさむこともある。
