Adults Beat Young Kids in Creativity Test

1Adults' ideas and drawings were rated as more creative than young children's in a new study from Austria. Many people believe that children are more creative than adults. The study shows that the truth is not so simple.

2Researchers at the University of Graz tested 92 children and 70 adults. The children were four to seven years old. Most of the adults were in their 20s.

3Everyone did the same three tasks. First, they had three minutes to think of new uses for a tin can. Then they drew any picture they liked and an animal that does not exist. Five judges scored the work without knowing who made it.

4The adults got higher creativity scores in all three tasks. But the children felt more confident about their own work. They also enjoyed two of the tasks more than the adults did.

5In the study, 78.6 percent of the adults said children are more creative. Among the children, 46.7 percent chose children and 43.5 percent chose adults.

本文の children are more creative than adults は「子どもは大人より創造的だ」という意味。
