Scared Together, Closer Together

1People who went through a haunted house together said they felt closer, a U.S. study found. Halloween is on October 31.

2The researchers did their study at a haunted house in Gainesville, Florida. They asked more than 2,000 visitors about their feelings. Visitors who were more afraid also felt closer to the people they went with. Holding hands and talking were linked to closer feelings, too.

3But when visitors answered before and after the haunted house, their scores changed only a little. So the team also talked with 20 visitors. These visitors said they grew closer later, when they talked about the scary parts. One researcher said groups talk about things like who screamed the loudest.

4The study shows a link, not a cause. It was published in the science journal Emotion this year.

「より~」は、短い語なら -er(close → closer)、長い語なら more をつける(afraid → more afraid)。 Visitors who were more afraid also felt closer to the people they went with.
