Mario Creator Gets a Top Honor
1The Japanese government said on Oct. 23 that Shigeru Miyamoto will receive the Order of Culture. Miyamoto is the man who created Super Mario. He is the first person from the video game world to get this honor.
2The Order of Culture is one of the highest honors in Japan. It started in 1937. People get it for great work in art, science and other fields. The Emperor will give the medals at the Imperial Palace on Nov. 3.
3Miyamoto is 73 years old. He joined Nintendo in 1977. He led the making of Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda.
4In junior high school, he wanted to be a manga artist. On Oct. 22, Miyamoto said he made his games with many other people. He said he is accepting the honor for all of them.

1日本の政府は10月23日、宮本茂さんが文化勲章を受けると発表しました。宮本さんは「スーパーマリオ」を生み出した人です。ゲームの世界からこの勲章を受けるのは、宮本さんが初めてです。
2文化勲章は、日本でいちばん名誉ある勲章のひとつです。1937年に始まりました。芸術や科学などの分野で、大きな働きをした人がもらいます。11月3日に、天皇陛下が皇居で勲章を手わたします。
3宮本さんは73歳です。1977年に任天堂に入りました。「ドンキーコング」「スーパーマリオブラザーズ」「ゼルダの伝説」を中心になって作りました。
4中学生のころ、宮本さんはマンガ家になりたいと思っていました。10月22日、宮本さんは、自分のゲームはほかの大勢の人といっしょに作ったものだと話しました。そして、その人たちみんなの代表として勲章を受けると言いました。
