A Nap or a Workout After No Sleep?
1A short workout helped tired people remember things as well as a long nap did. The study was done in Canada. The people in the study had not slept for 30 hours.
2Researchers at McGill University studied more than 50 healthy young adults. After staying awake for 30 hours, they were put into three groups. One group rode an exercise bike for 20 minutes. Another group took a 90-minute nap. The last group did nothing.
3Then everyone looked at a set of pictures. Three days later, they saw old and new pictures mixed together. They had to say which ones they had seen before.
4The exercise group and the nap group did about 22 percent better than the group that did nothing. The two groups got almost the same scores.
5The researchers said exercise cannot take the place of sleep. But they said a short workout may help when people cannot take a nap.

The people in the study had not slept for 30 hours.(研究のときまでに30時間ねむっていなかった)がその例。
