1Nearly three in four young people in a new Japanese survey said social media influencers have more effect on them than celebrities. Wakamono Research, a Tokyo company that studies teenagers and young adults, released the results on Oct. 17. It surveyed 685 people aged 14 to 20 online in July.

2When asked which group influences them more, 73.9 percent picked influencers and 26.1 percent picked celebrities. Reasons for choosing influencers included watching TikTok and Instagram more than TV. Other respondents said influencers are often close to their own age and easier to copy. Some who picked celebrities said people famous enough to appear on TV seem more reliable.

3The survey also asked whether being an influencer counts as a real job. Of those surveyed, 85.5 percent said it does. Some noted that anyone who can earn a living from it has a proper job. Some of those who said no described the work as unstable or closer to a hobby than a career.

4Asked how influencers who post every day seem to them, 40.0 percent said they look like they are having fun. Another 23.3 percent said they look tired.

5In a survey released by the same company in September, 75.8 percent of 447 people aged 14 to 20 said they do not believe influencers who comment on the news. A government survey released in June found that teenagers use the internet more than any other medium to learn about current events quickly, but they gave TV the highest score for trust.

(Asked ~, …)

Asked how ~ は When they were asked how ~ を短くした形で、「~とたずねられて」。 Asked how influencers who post every day seem to them, 40.0 percent said ...
