A Green Star in Space

1Scientists say they have found the first star that would look green to our eyes. A team from the University of Warwick in England showed that it would look green. The team does not know of any earlier reliable report of a green star.

2Most stars look orange, white or blue. Their color usually depends on how hot they are. Mark Hollands, one of the researchers, said normal stars are almost always orange, white or blue.

3The green star is a white dwarf. A white dwarf is what is left after a star like the sun dies. This one took in rocky material from the space around it. The rocks had sodium in them.

4The sodium takes away orange light, so the star would look green to us. The team studied 151 white dwarfs near Earth. The green star is much farther away, so it was not one of them. Three stars in the group look pink.

本文の they have found the first star that would look green to our eyes は「(科学者たちが)わたしたちの目には緑に見えるはずの星を(いま)見つけた」という「完了」の意味。
